Installing license on HP 3PAR storage(How to article)

HP 3PAR is gaining its momentum in storage industry and cutomers are really opting this storage for their virtual environment. Having said this, i would like to cover the licensing part of 3PAR , both using CLI and GUI.

Installing license using 3PAR StoreServ SSMC

Here we go!

Using GUI.

1. login to to IMC
2. In the Management Tree, right-click on the name of the storage system for which you want to set the license. or you can access the option In the Main Menu Bar, click Actions > Systems > Set License.
   
   
   
3. The Set License dialog box appears for the selected system.
   
4. You have the option of selecting the license from a file or copy/pasting the license key into the space provided. To select the license from a file, click the browse button and select the license key file. Note:-Avoid editing the license(.dat) file.
5. You are required to accept the terms and conditions agreement in order to enable the OK button.
6. ck OK to set the license and you are done.

Using CLI(Installing licenses with setlicense command)

1. To install the license file on your InServ you need to copy it to the folder where the cli.exe program is located. Under normal circumstances this is C:\Program Files(x86)\3PAR\inform_cli_x.x.x\bin\.(Replace x.x.x with yout CLI version.)
2. Issue the showlicense command to check currently installed licenses for your InServ

    3. Add the licensed features by issuing the following command 

3pardemo cli% setlicense –f inserv00x.dat

(inserv00x.dat is your license key file)

    4. Or you can issue only setlicense command and then paste the key when asked.

If this software is being provided to you for a limited evaluation
period, then your license shall be governed by the current HP Software
License Terms (or as otherwise agreed between us) with the
exception that the term of the license shall expire upon the earlier
of the evaluation period notified to you or 120 days. Upon expiration
of the license, you must cease using the software and HP reserves
the right to disable the software without notice. By using or
activating the software you are agreeing to these terms.

Please enter the new license key below.  When finished, press enter on an
empty line.  If the key is entered by hand, note that characters other
than letters and numbers are ignored, and the key is not case sensitive.

    5. Issue the showlicense command again. you are done!
