In our previous posts, we talked about initial configuration and CMC installation of StoreVirtual storage. In this article we will try to explore the software configuration of this storage.
Before we start, confirm that the CMC(Centralized Management Console) software is installed on the management server which you will be using to manage the SAN. Make sure to have administrative privileges on the server, so that you won't face any issues during the configuration of the storage.
Once we have stood-up the hardware and ready to start the software configuration, simply power on the storage systems and wait. When the storage nodes are online, log in to your storage management server and access CMC software(You should be able to see an icon on desktop, just double click on it)
The first time when you open the CMC, Find Systems window will automatically popup . Use this screen to discover the storage systems on the network by adding individual IP addresses or by selecting Auto discover by broadcast.
If you failed to get the pop-up, go to Find→Find Systems in the CMC to discover the storage systems.
When the discovery process is finished and you are ready to proceed, check the the "Available Systems", You should be able to see the nodes under that. Expand each storage node and check for any abnormalities. Check firmware versions and RAID configurations. Ensure everything is as per your requirement. If you need the storage setup to be modified, do it!.
now it's time to add interface IP address for each node. Earlier, during the initial setup, we have configured only the management IP address and now we will be configuring iSCSI and SANi/Q communication addresses.
Select the storage system on which you want to edit the network settings, expand the node and select Network category. On the right hand side window, select the appropriate interface from the TCP/IP tab(as seen in the above picture).
After selecting the desired interface, click TCP/IP Tasks on the bottom side and select Edit.
Click OK on the confirmation page and within few seconds you will be logged out(this is normal). Do the node discovery once again and check the settings.
If you want to change the frame size, speed and Duplex method, under Network category, select TCP Status tab.
Select the interface which you want to edit, Click TCP Status Tasks on the bottom side, and select Edit or right click on the interface and select Edit.
Select Set to in the frame size , enter 9000 Bytes if you want to enable jumbo frames. Change duplex and Flow control if required.
Once done, Click OK to save the changes. If you want to edit network settings for more adapters, repeat all the steps which are described above.
