How to add wireless printer in windows 8.1

Recently we have purchased an HP deskjet all-in-one printer which has a built-in wireless printing function and also can be configured using USB cable. configuring via USB was quite easy by using the software provided by HP, but the software could not detect the wireless printer and gave "unable to detect" error all the time.

We configured the wireless settings as per the instructions from HP, but configuring printer from default Printer software failed. But finally we were able to configure the printer using the Windows default "add printer wizard".

For an easy understanding we are providing you a detailed step by step instruction to configure wireless printer on your windows machine.

Go to control panel by using start option on from windows charm.

inside the control panel, select "Devices and Printer" option. once you have the printer dialogue, click on "Add a Printer" option and the add printer wizard will open for you.

Add a printer wizard automatically starts searching for connected and available printers which your system can see.  This will list local attached and wireless printers. Once the search is complete, select the printer which you want to configure.once done click "Next" to continue.

By Default, will Windows will have the default driver set, if you want to continue with the existing driver set, use the recommended option or you can select the "replace the current driver" if you have a new driver set available with you.once done click "Next" to continue.

If you are planning continue with the recommended driver set option, the next will take you to key in the desired printer name. Here you can mention the printer name according to your choice.once done click "Next" to continue.

If you want the printer to be shared with other hosts in your network through your machine, select the second option. According to practice, this option is good for locally attached printers, so other systems in the same network can also use this when they have a print request. For a wireless printer stay with default and select do not share this printer and click next to continue.

The next screen will be the completion screen, which will allow you to take print out of the test page which will give you the driver list and the printer details. if you really need one, click on "Print a test page" else click finish to complete the setup.

Once everything is done as per your expectation, go back to devices and printers and access the newly installed printer properties. Here you will be able to see the printer settings and you can change them here as well.

According to our observation, this method will be the best suitable, if you are unable to detect the wireless printer using printer software.

Hope this helps!
